Attilio Deffenu


Attilio Deffenu was a passenger steamer laid down by Societa Nazionale Di Navigazione Ansaldo in Genoa, and was launched in 1929 for the Italian company Transatlantica Italiana. She was sold to CITRA three years later, and in 1937 she ended up sailing for the company Tirrenea. She was used as a military transport by Regia Marina after Italy joined the Axis forces in 1940. Under a journey in convoy from Croatia to Italy she was spotted by the British submarine HMS Trasher and torpedoed outside Brindisi 25. November 1941. The wreck rest today on a depth of 25 to 38 meter about twenty nautical miles east of Brindisi.
