Fleiss
was a coastal steam tanker laid down at Muller Foxhol in
Groningen, and was launched in 1922 for the German
company August Peters in Hamburg. She was sold to Brone
de Ferrari in Genoa in 1933 and renamed Quinto, and five
years later she was taken over by Silane Segherie. Under
the Greek - Italian conflict, she was spotted by the
Greek submarine Katsonis under command of Spanides south
of Bar 31. December 1940. She was taken under fire from
the submarine's deck gun which ignited the cargo and set
her full ablaze. She soon disappeared in the deep, and
its estimated that ten men lost their lives in the
sinking. The wreck rest today on a depth of 30 to35
meter some three hundred meters from shore outside
Czarnogora.
