USS Burns

USS
Burns was a Fletcher class destroyer laid down by
Charleston Shipbuilding & Drydock, and was launched in
August 1942 for US Navy. She was commissioned in April the
following year, and served in the Pacific under Second
World War. She earned herself eleven Battle Stars for her
service during the war. She was decommissioned in June
1946, and placed in the Reserve Fleet. She was stricken
from the US Navy lists in 1972, and after being rigged
down she was used as a target for testing new naval guns
and sunk outside California 20 June 1974. The wreck was
found and identified by divers in December 2009, and rest
today on a depth of 75to 82 meter outside San Clemente
Island.
