Forest City


Forest City was a schooner laid down by Peck & Master Corporation in Cleveland, and was launched in 1870 for the American company North Western Transportation Company in Detroit. She was used in the ore transport, and was converted to a self-propelled steamer a few years after launch. In 1892 when she was sold to Vulcan Transportation Company but kept her original name. She hit ground at Bears Rump Island under full steam 5. June 1904. Despite several attempts to re-float and salvage her, she was written off as a total loss a few weeks later.  The remains of her wooden hull rest today on a depth of 20 to 44 meter northeast of Tobermory.
