Nordmeer was as a general cargo ship built by Flensburger Schiff Gesellshaft in Germany , and was launched in 1954. She was delivered to the German company Nordstern Rederei Gmbh the same year. She ran aground in Lake Huron after a navigational error 19.November 1966.  What was supposed to be an easy rescue operation turned sour when a storm ravaged the seas a few days after. Her hull was ripped open, and she was declared a total loss.  Salvage work was done on the wreck later and her cargo was raised. The wreck rest today on a depth of 6 to 15 meter a few miles north of Thunder Bay Island near Alpena.
