Northeastern
was a cargo steamer laid down by Chicago Shipbuilding
Company, and was launched in December 1901 for
Northwestern Steamship Company. She was converted to a
tanker two years later, and under a journey from Port
Arthur to Philadelphia loaded with oil she hit ground at
Diamond Shoals under poor visibility 30. December 1904 and
sank. She placed herself on her keel, and the battered
wreck rest today on a depth of approximately 12 to 15
meter.
