USS Palawan

USS
Palawan was built at Bethlehem Shipbuilding
Company in Baltimore, and was launched in August 1944.
She
did service for the US Navy as a repair ship under second
world war in the Pacific, and was stricken from the navy
list in 1963. After years being laid up she was sold to
State of California in 1976. The year after she was
stripped of engines and the superstructure dismantled, and
scuttled as an artificial reef outside Los Angeles. The
wreck rest today on a depth of 30 to 38 meter outside
Redondo Beach, near Palos Verde.
