Westmoreland was a general cargo steamer laid down by Lafrinier & Richardson in Cleveland, and was launched in 1853 for Ellis Anson & John Ball in Buffalo. Under a journey from Chicago to Buffalo loaded with food and general goods, she foundered outside Manitou Island 7. December 1854. Seventeen people lost their lives in the accident.  The wreck was found in 2010 by the shipwreck hunter Ross Richardson, and rest today standing on her keel as a classic Donald Duck wreck on a depth of 55  to 60 meter south of Manitou Island.
