USS
YO-257 was built as a gasoline barge in 1940 at Puget
Sound Naval Shipyard. She was at some point sent to Guam
in Asia, and later rebuilt to a self propelled barge. For
a short while she did service for the US Coast Guard in
1963, and later that same year she was taken out of
service. Between 1963 and 1982 her history is a big vague
to say the least, but in 1982 she was sold for scrapping.
Instead of being cut open she was bought by Atlantis
Submarine Group and scuttled in 1989 as an artificial reef
outside Oahu. The wreck rest today on a depth of 25 to 35
meter approx two nautical miles outside Waikiku.
