Alaska II

Escorpion was a general cargo ship built by Astilleros del Atlantico in Santander, and was launched in 1959. She changed name and owners several times before she sailed as Alaska II for the Greek company Oversea Reefers Carrier Marine in 1980. Under a journey from Jeddah to Suez she caught fire and exploded at thh entrance to the Suez canal 8. April 1986. She disappeared in the deep ten minutes later and claimed the lives of two of her crew members. According to the Red Sea Wreck Project the wreck rest today on her port side on a depth of 10 meter outside Hurghada. Other sources state the wreck rest in deep waters.
