El
Minya was a Soviet produced T-43 class minesweeper sold to
Egypt in 1955. Egypt bought a total of seven ships of this
class. In 1970 the situation was tense between Egypt and
Israel, and after an Egyptian raid against Israel, the
military airbase at Hurghada was attacked by Israeli
airplanes 6.February 1970. Minya which laid at anchor in
the harbor was probably seen as a puny threat to the
airplanes but due to her being a navy vessel she was
nevertheless attacked and sunk. The wreck rest today on a
depth of 19 to 32 meter outside Hurghada Marina.
